Father of Mercy
6 December 2003, 1 pm | Prayer
Father of mercy,
like the prodigal son
I return to you and say:
“I have sinned against you
and am no longer worthy to be called your son.”
Christ Jesus, Savior of the World,
I pray with the repentent thief
to whom you promised Paradise:
“Lord, remember me in your kingdom.”
Holy Spirit, fountain of love,
I call on you with trust:
“Purify my heart,
and help me to walk as a child of light.”
Amen.
I found the above prayer and image on a prayer card on the floor in an empty hallway at school. I wonder if it is one of those seeds for contemplation. It is a beautiful prayer for an act of contrition—it speaks to the whole Trinity.

I remember first seeing this painting in theology class and again at a retreat centre. I was hoping to find a copy of the Prodigal Son painting, so thanks for posting it here!
