Definition of Irony?

I was reading a post on another weblog this morning that reminded me of something. I once saw a bumper sticker on the back of a huge, expensive Ford Expedition SUV. It read,

Don’t let the car fool you.
My real treasure is in heaven.

Does that strike anyone else as ironic?

  1. Oh yes, that’s irony at it’s best.

  2. heh.

I saw hypocrisy in/on a vehicle that passed me today. She nearly ran ME off the road when she failed to yield on a yield ramp… then flipped me off as she sped past me… on her bumper were three to four “Born Again Christian” bumper stickers… one from her church, and two about being a Christian.

    I just shook my head.

  3. Have a brother-in-law who is huuuuuge and who once got irritated with a driver who nearly ran him and his family off the expressway several times, slowing down after each incident to be passed one more time. The last event, however, provoked the big guy to follow him when he departed on the next exit ramp, pull up behind him, get out, and grab the guy through his open window. Shaking him violently, he mentioned the poor fellow’s bumper sticker “Honk if you love Jesus”, asked if he was a Christian, and after receiving an affirmative, told him he sure wasn’t acting like one!…My favorite verses in Habakkuk, by the way, are 3:17-18. Check it out, my friend……..
