We are bums who have been given…

This seems an appropriate thought for the last day of the year.

If you were to die tonight and stand before God, and He were to ask you, “Why should I take you to Heaven?” What would you say?

We can argue forever your answer or my answer, but here is God’s answer. It is on almost every page of the New Testament: because of Christ, the water of eternal life is free, “without price”. All we have to do is to believe in Him, hope in Him, love Him. Not worthiness but love and desire are our only qualifications. We are bums who have been given clean wedding garments (Mt 22:12) and free entrance tickets to the wedding. The real surprise is that we are not just guests, we’re the Bride.

  1. I just wanted to say *thank you* very much. Your blog was where I read about the plan for reading the Bible in a year. I’ve always said the Bible would be my desert island book (dinner table with kids… if you were stranded on a desert island but could take ONE book with you…?) but have finished my first month (Isaiah, half of Matthew, 1,2 & 3 John, Romans, and thirty-one psalms) am so pleased that I could read it in a comfy armchair and not sunburned and parched, surrounded by sweet potatoes. Or halvah.

    Camped with the kiddiewinks at Thunderbird Lake State Park a few years ago. Water was low (September) and earth was VERY red. We had a nice time.
